Is My Boyfriend Married?

A conversation I overheard at work piqued my interest. One of my female co-workers was telling another she suspected her new boyfriend was married. They were trying to figure out what signs or signals would give him away as a married man.

Here's what they came up with:

1) Makes excuses not to see you and the excuses don't add up. "Beth," my co-worker, said her boyfriend said he couldn't see her last Saturday because he was going to Minneapolis on business. When she saw him on Tuesday, she asked him how the trip had gone and he seemed confused for a moment until he remembered his story.

2) There are places he won't take you. "Beth" said that she suggested they meet for drinks at a particular restaurant in the city and he adamantly refused, but suggested another night spot. She said he became flustered and his refusal to meet there was all out of proportion to what she would have expected.

3) His cell phone rings and when he looks at who's calling he says it's nobody. "Marge," the other co-worker, said this happened to her. The man she was dating did this several times. It turned out he wasn't married but he was living with someone.

4) His house is "too messy," "too far," "too something" for you to visit him there. "Beth" said she suggested on a couple of occasions that she fix him dinner at his house and he always had a reason it was a bad idea.

5) Something doesn't feel right. "Beth" and "Marge" both agreed that they could tell something was out of whack. They had suspicions but they weren't sure what to do about it. They concluded talking to friends was the best course of action.

I have to make a confession here. As much as I love and respect women, some things they do drive me crazy. One of those things is believing that all problems can be solved my talking to friends. Women have extensive support systems and that's great, but sometimes there are real steps that can be taken to solve a problem. If you think your boyfriend is married or might be married, find out for sure!

Most of our problems are self induced. It's true, but we continue causing our own troubles even when there are positive steps we can take to fix them.

Please don't lie awake at night worrying and wondering if your boyfriend is married. Find out for sure. If he's not, you can stop worrying. If he is, well, at least you can get on with your life and find someone who will give you the love and respect you deserve.
